Claremont Senior Center News

The Claremont Senior Center is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m, Monday through Friday and from 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The center has many activities including pool, card games, cribbage, puzzles, mahjong, knitting and quilting. Miracle Ear, blood drive and VNA foot clinics are also scheduled. The summer is progressing well and the knitters group is working on many different projects, come join the group from 1 to 3 p.m, Fridays, and have a good time. You don’t have to be a knitter, bring your own projects.

• Meals: The center has two options for its meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays – drive thru and indoor seating. On Tuesday, the menu will be taco salad with all the fixings and dessert. On Thursday, the menu will be cranberry chicken thighs, baked potato, vegetable and dessert. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 603-678-0433 by 10:30 to reserve either drive thru or inside dining. The price is $5 for members and $6 for non-members.

• Foot Clinics: Clinics will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 16 and Aug. 23. The clinics are sponsored by Lake Sunapee Region VNA and Hospice with a charge of $30. You must call 603-748-1731 to make an appointment.

• Bingo: The center holds bingo every Wednesday afternoon. Bingo is a popular activity for the center’s seniors — must be at least 55 years old. The center does not accept $20 bills. Cards must be purchased by 12:45 p.m. and the games begin at 1 p.m. The concession is open to purchase lunch until bingo starts. Around 30 to 40 seniors attend, visit with their friends and try to win a little extra money.

• Cribbage: Want to show your skills with others come and join other enthusiastic players on Tuesdays at 1 p.m.

• Mahjong: “Wanna be” new comers are welcome. Interested to learn the game. come at 1 p.m., Fridays.

• Ball Room Dancing: A dance will be held freom 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Aug. 18. Live music will be by Gerri Grimo. The cost is $10 per person. Come and have fun with friends and neighbors.

• Line Dancing: It’s time to show off your steps and share your company with other dancers from 7 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 10, 17, 24 and 31. The cost is $5 for members and $15 for non-members.

• Men’s Breakfast: No men’s breakfast will be held in August.

• Women’s Group: This is a new group were women can visit and talk about any issues. The next meeting is at 1 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 17.

Last free Concert for the season– Saturday, August 19 at 6:30 pm we will hold a free concert with the band “Gerri Grimo East Bay Jazz.” Bring your chairs. It will be held outside if no rain and inside if it rains. Open to the public.

Car Show Meeting – The 11th Annual Car show will be held on August 27th. Students who need community service hours are invited to call Cheryl at 603-543-5998 to volunteer. Also, we continue to need volunteers, we don’t need just students. Any age welcome, just call Cheryl at 603-543-5998.

Blood Drives – American Red Cross is having 2 blood drives for August. The 1st one is Monday, August 28 and 2nd is Tuesday, August 29 in honor of Jaidyn Harlow (both days are from 12-5 pm). Please call 1-800-Red-Cross (1-800-733-2767) to schedule appointment.

Women’s Pool – Do you want to be part of the game of pool? Ladies play every Monday’s from 9-12. Come be apart of this fun activity with like- minded women.

Men’s Pool – Come have some fun and spirited games of pool every Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-12. All men are welcome.

Quilter’s Circle – Come tell your story with the quilting skills you want to share with other quilters. Next meeting is Wednesday, August 2 or Friday, August 18 at 10 am.

New members are always welcome to come enjoy our facility. You can sign up for a “one- month trial membership”. That way you can enjoy our programs and activities before you join us.
